Papanasi – romanian doughnuts

On the first Friday in June, the in the USA is celebrated the doughnut day. Zorra thought that it is time to bring this tradition to Europe! Said and done. A secret Facebook group was founded and we worked on this idea. It was decided that we all write our posts until the 01/07 and that the recipe will be published on the 01/02. At the end of the article you will find a list of all participants and the links to their recipes.

Papanasi – romanian doughnuts

For a long time I did not know what to bake. But then I decided to bake papanasi - Romanian doughnuts. I baked them often, but I was never satisfied with the photos. So this was the perfect opportunity to bake them again.

You need:

500 g quark
2 eggs
100 g sugar
1 pinch of salt
¼ tsp baking soda
200 g flour
oil for frying

Preparation time: 30 minutes
You get: 8 doughnuts

This is how we proceed:

Place the quark in a sieve for a few hours and let it drip off. Then add quark, eggs, sugar, salt and baking soda to a bowl and mix. Add the flour and stir until you get a sticky dough.

Divide dough into equally portions and shape each portion into a ball, flatten and make a hole in the middle. Your hands should be very well floured. Then shape a small ball for each doughnut.

Papanasi – before baking

In a pan heat the oil. When the oil very is hot, fry papanasi on each side for 2-3 minutes over low heat. Place them on paper towel so that the excess oil is absorbed. Serve with sour cream and jam. They taste the best warm, but they can also be served cold.
