In the past I used to cook quite often with cake mix, instant soups or instant sauces. But that was a long time ago. Nowadays I try to do everything myself. Of course there are a few exceptions, but very few. I've learned that many things are very easy to make at home. Just as this vanilla sauce. It does not take much time, is quite simple to make and it tastes 100 times better than the instant product. And I always know what it is inside. And here's the proof that it is so simple.
You need:
100
ml milk
100
ml cream
2
egg yolk
vanilla
bean
3
tbsp sugar
1
tbsp vanilla sugar
3-4
tsp corn flour
Cut open vanilla bean lengthwise with a sharp knife and scrape vanilla seeds. Add milk, cream, 2 tbsp sugar, vanilla seeds and vanilla bean into a saucepan and bring slowly to a boil. Stir in cornstarch and cook for another minute. Remove pot from heat and allow infusing for 10 minutes. Remove the vanilla pod.
Beat egg yolks together with 1 tbsp sugar with the mixer for5 minutes. Add 3-4 tbsp of the milk-cream mixture to the egg yolks, then pour the egg yolks to the milk-cream mixture and continue to stir until a sauce is formed.
