Mac and cheese

Mac and cheese

Thursday I had a day off to take care of some personal belongings, so I had time to cook something in the afternoon. During the week I almost never cook. I cook only on weekends...and this not always. I wanted to cook something delicious, but at always it should be quick. So I decided for Mac and Cheese. Mac and Cheese is a pasta dish which is popular especially in North America and the UK. For Mac and Cheese noodles are mixed with a cheese sauce and usually baked with grated cheese in the oven. Sounds simple? It is. Here is the recipe.

You need:

200 g macaroni
25 g butter
1 ½ tbsp flour
250 ml milk
salt
pepper
nutmeg
100 g grated cheddar
1-2 tbsp grated Parmesan

Servings: 2
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Baking time: 15 minuten

This is how we proceed:

In a large pot bring salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180°C.

Melt the butter in a saucepan and then add the flour. Allow the flour and butter to cook until light and foamy, about 1 minute, whisking constantly. Gradually add milk and bring the sauce to a boil, whisking constantly until a thick sauce is formed. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Add the Cheddar cheese and allow to melt..

Mac and cheese sauce in the making

Give macaroni in the sauce and mix well.

Add pasta to the sauce

Place the noodles in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and bake for 15 minutes.
